SmartLink & Pre-Saves

How to Get Your Spotify Link Before Release Day

Why You Might Need the Link Early

Many artists want their Spotify link (URI/URL) before the release goes public so they can:

  • Set up a pre-save campaign so fans save the track the moment it drops.
  • Pitch the song to Spotify editorial and to independent playlist curators.
  • Line up promo, press, and social posts with the correct link ready.

How the Pre-Release Link Works

Spotify only generates a link for your release after it has received and accepted the delivery from us, which happens ahead of your public release date if you distribute with enough lead time. The track is not yet playable to the public, but the URL exists and can be used for pre-saves and pitching. This is exactly why we recommend submitting your release well before the date you want it to go live.

The Easiest Way: Use a Pre-Save Smart Link

The simplest route is to create a pre-save campaign for your upcoming release. The pre-save page gives you a single link to share right away. It captures fans before release day and automatically points them to your Spotify track when it is live, so you often do not need the raw Spotify URI at all.

Getting the Actual Spotify URI

  1. Distribute early. Give at least the recommended lead time before your release date so Spotify has accepted the delivery in advance. See Understanding Release Scheduling and Dates.
  2. Claim Spotify for Artists. Once your release is in Spotify's system, claiming your Spotify for Artists profile lets you see upcoming releases and pitch them to editorial from your dashboard.
  3. Pitch through Spotify for Artists. The "Upcoming" section shows unreleased tracks you can pitch. Pitching at least 7 days before release day is strongly recommended.
  4. Need the exact URI for a curator? If a playlist curator or promoter needs the specific Spotify URI before release and you cannot see it yet, contact support with your release details and we will help you retrieve it once Spotify has accepted the delivery.

Important Notes

  • The pre-release link will not play the song publicly until your release date. That is normal.
  • If you distribute too close to your release date, there may be no time for a pre-release link or for editorial pitching. Plan ahead.
  • Never share private pre-release audio outside trusted curators, as leaks can affect your rollout.
