Royalties & Payments

How does the Royalties process work?

How the Royalties Process Works

InterSpace Distribution collects your streaming royalties from every DSP and pays them out to you, minus a platform fee that depends on your plan. Here is a complete breakdown of how the process works.

Step 1: Streams Are Counted

Every time your music is streamed, downloaded, or used on a licensed platform, the DSP counts that activity and calculates a royalty based on its per-stream rate. Rates vary by platform, country, and listener subscription type.

Step 2: DSPs Report to InterSpace

Streaming platforms typically report royalty data monthly, with a lag of about 2 to 3 months. Royalties earned in January may not appear in your dashboard until March or April. See When Do Streams Show in My InterSpace Dashboard?

Step 3: InterSpace Credits Your Account

Once we receive payment from the DSPs, your earnings are credited to your InterSpace balance. You will see them in the Finance / Royalties section of your dashboard. See How does the "Balance" Tab work?

Step 4: The Platform Fee Is Applied

InterSpace keeps a percentage of your royalties to maintain the platform and license our DSP deals. The rate depends on your plan:

  • Paid plans (Artist, Artist Plus, Label): you receive 92.5% of your royalties, while InterSpace retains a 7.5% platform maintenance and DSP deal-licensing fee.
  • Free plan: InterSpace retains a 30% service fee.
  • Label partners operate on a separately negotiated revenue split.

Upgrading to a paid plan lowers this fee from 30% to 7.5%. See How to Upgrade or Change Your Plan.

Step 5: You Request a Payout

When your balance reaches the minimum threshold, you can request a payout to your registered payment method. A 1% processing fee applies per withdrawal. See Minimum Payment Threshold.

Types of Royalties

Streaming Royalties (Master / Neighbouring Rights)

Earned every time your recording is streamed, tied to your sound recording and collected via InterSpace.

Publishing Royalties (Composition)

Earned every time the underlying composition is played. Collected through performing rights organisations (PROs) such as COSON, ASCAP, BMI, and PRS. InterSpace collects master royalties; publishing royalties may require separate PRO registration. See What Is Music Publishing?

Sync Royalties

Earned when your music is licensed for use in film, TV, ads, or games. Contact our team if you receive a sync licensing enquiry.

How Much Will I Earn Per Stream?

Per-stream rates are set by each DSP and vary widely by the listener's country, their subscription type, and the platform's payout pool. Your royalty statement shows your actual earnings per platform. See How to Read Your Royalty Statement.
