Participant roles

Participant Roles in a Release

When uploading a release, you will need to assign roles to all participants who contributed to the music. Correct credits ensure proper royalty reporting and DSP compliance.

Release-Level Roles

Primary Artist

The main artist whose name appears on the release. This is the name displayed on Spotify, Apple Music, and all DSPs. Every release must have at least one primary artist.

Featuring Artist

Any artist who appears as a guest on the release. Featured artists are listed as "ft." or "feat." on streaming platforms.

Remixer

If the release is a remix, credit the remixer in this field. The original artist is credited separately.

Track-Level Roles

Composer / Songwriter

The person(s) who wrote the musical composition — melody and chords. At least one composer must be credited on every track.

Lyricist

The person(s) who wrote the lyrics. If the same person wrote both music and lyrics, credit them in both fields.

Producer

The music producer who created or produced the beat/instrumentation.

Publisher

The music publishing company that manages the composition rights. If you self-publish, use your artist or label name.

Why Accurate Credits Matter

  • Royalty accuracy: Correct credits ensure all contributors receive their share of publishing and performance royalties
  • DSP compliance: Apple Music and other stores may reject releases with missing or incorrect credits
  • Legal protection: Proper attribution protects you from future disputes
Note: Once a release is approved, participant credits cannot be changed without submitting a correction request to our support team.
