What Is DSP Pitching?
DSP pitching refers to submitting your upcoming release directly to streaming platform editorial teams (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) for consideration for their curated playlists — playlists like New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, Africa Now, or Afrobeats Hits.
A single editorial playlist placement can deliver tens of thousands of streams overnight and massively expand your audience.
How to Submit for Spotify Editorial Pitching
Spotify allows artists to pitch one unreleased track per release through Spotify for Artists. To be eligible:
- Your release must be submitted to InterSpace (and through to Spotify) at least 7 days before the release date
- You must claim your Spotify for Artists profile (go to artists.spotify.com)
- The track must not yet be live on Spotify
Steps to pitch on Spotify:
- Log in at artists.spotify.com
- Go to Music → Upcoming and find your upcoming release
- Click Pitch a Song and fill in the pitch form — genre, mood, instrumentation, and promotional context
- Submit before the release date
How to Submit for Apple Music Editorial Consideration
Apple Music curators review releases submitted through Apple Music for Artists:
- Claim your profile at artists.apple.com
- Under upcoming releases, you can add promotional notes for curators
- Submit with as much lead time as possible (2+ weeks recommended)
What InterSpace Does to Support Pitching
- Priority delivery — we expedite delivery to Spotify and Apple Music to ensure your release is available for pitching within the required window
- Label plan pitching support — label-tier subscribers get assistance from the InterSpace team in preparing pitch notes and identifying relevant playlists
- Genre and metadata review — accurate genre metadata is critical for editorial consideration; our quality control process checks this
What You Can Do to Improve Your Chances
- Submit early — at least 3–4 weeks before release date
- Write a compelling pitch — tell the story behind the song, name the genre/mood precisely, mention any press coverage or prior playlist placements
- Have existing streams — playlists favour artists with some proven listenership
- Accurate metadata — correct genre, language, and mood tags help your track appear in algorithm-driven playlist recommendations
- Run a pre-save campaign — early pre-saves signal fan interest, which DSP algorithms notice
