Understanding YouTube Content ID Royalties

YouTube Content ID

YouTube Content ID is a digital fingerprinting system that automatically identifies when your registered music is used in videos uploaded by other YouTube creators. When a match is found, you earn a share of the advertising revenue from those videos.

How to Enable YouTube Content ID

During the DSP selection step of your release, tick YouTube Content ID. This registers your recording in the Content ID system. There is no extra charge for this.

How Royalties Are Earned

When another creator uploads a video using your music:

  1. Content ID detects the match automatically
  2. Ads are placed on that video
  3. The ad revenue is split — the majority goes to InterSpace (which pays it to you) and a portion to the video creator
  4. Royalties appear in your dashboard in the Finance section

Claim Options

When Content ID detects your music in a video, there are three possible outcomes:

  • Monetise: Ads are placed on the video and you earn revenue (default)
  • Track: You can see where your music is being used without monetising
  • Block: The video is blocked in specific countries or worldwide

InterSpace sets the default to Monetise for all Content ID registrations to maximise your earnings.

What About My Own YouTube Videos?

If you upload a video to YouTube using your own music and Content ID flags it, you may receive a claim on your own video. To resolve this, contact support at support@interspacemusic.com and we will whitelist your own channel so it is excluded from claims.

YouTube OAC (Official Artist Channel)

Separate from Content ID, an Official Artist Channel (OAC) merges your topic channel (auto-created when your music is distributed) with your main YouTube channel. To apply for an OAC, claim your YouTube channel through your YouTube Studio settings and contact support for assistance.
